According to wikipedia "The first usage of the term may have been when conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer used the term in February 2001 to refer to the president's unilateral approach to national missile defense well before September 11th"

That's right. The term was coined before the attacks of Sept 11 and before the policy of anticipatory defense. According to both wikipedia and to Charles Krauthammer there have been several different variants of "Bush Doctrine". the idea of anticipatory defense is only one of them and not the most recent. Read Charles Krauthammers article about Bush Doctrine and Charlie Gibsons gaffe here.
So when Charlie Gibson asked Her about "Bush Doctrine", Gov. Palins response of "in what respect Charlie?" Was the 100% correct answer since there would have been several different answers depending on which variation of Bush Doctrine you are asking about.
When Mr Gibson smugly explained the policy of anticipatory defense thinking he had her cornered, he was really just exposing media bias once again. Thanks Charlie!

Bob - you are correct. There were at least 4 different policies that the press titled "Bush Doctrine". Gibson referred to only one of them. There has never been an official "Bush Doctrine". Palin's initial response was absolutely the correct one. Upon completion, but Palin and Gibson each gave a different, but correct response also, each referring to one of the four so-called "Bush Doctrines"
I guess I could have read the Krauthammer reference first since my reply was redundant with it.
Bob - I am so glad you posted this! I have been reading about this, too and Gibson has to know by now he was dead wrong - and yet, he has not corrected the record. Excuse the expression, but it's piss poor journalism....
I have also read the transcripts - someone (I think Mark Levine) posted it and noted all that Sarah had said that was cut from the viewers. I guess it made her look too smart.
Bob ~ Thanks for pointing out the truth. But somehow I don't think liberals will agree with your assumptions, even though you have proof. To them it means nothing. They will stop at nothing to get Obama elected.
We should not be concerned with what Charles Gibson knows - whether it's the Bush Doctrine or if he can spell his name. However, we should be very concerned with what Sarah Palin knows. The fact is she looked like a deer in headlights and could not answer the question with anything remotely relevant. It's not like she's running for Mayor of Wasilla anymore, she's hit the major league and needs to be able to answer major league questions.
Jay - she was very clear in her response, Gibson was not in his. her response, after no clarification from Gibson was
Charlie, if there is legitimate and enough intelligence that tells us that a strike is imminent against American people, we have every right to defend our country," Palin told ABC News' Charles Gibson. "In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend, and that's what a McCain-Palin administration would do."
and that clearly answered Gibson's question about a pre-emptive war. (Which, by the way Obama has not excluded). Again, there are multiple definitions of the so-called "Bush Doctrine" and all of them labeled as such by the press.
Bob, thanks for the research. I just love it when people in the media put their foot in thier mouths..
Don't you just love it when "media experts" put foot in mouth?
I'm glad you cleared this up! Charlie Gibson came across like an arrogant and smug ass. He talked down to her like he was her grandfather.
