Local Real Estate Comments and Ramblings

My hobby - what's yours?

I know this whole blogging thing doesn't always need to be about real estate, so every once in a while I like to share something a little different about myself to let readers get to know me just a little better.

As I mentioned in a previous post I think that there is a decent chance that Elvis is alive.

I don't get to spend enough time on one of my favorite hobbies and that is Homebrewing my own beer.  I really like great imported or micrbrew beer and I love to create the same great and unique flavors at home.  Homebrewing is not to difficult.  Basically, if you can boil water you could probably make beer.  However it can be time consuming.  The fermenting containers must be sterilized before the "wort" is fermented.

Malt extracts

Recycle  REuse - The bottles are re used capable bottles. I love it when my firend find or save the Grolsch style bottles with the cap build right on to the bottle. The really time consuming part is that each bottle must be cleaned and sterilized before the beer is added.  I would guess that the total time needed for brewing, fermenting and bottling is about 6 hours.  That is actually spread over a time period of about 1 month from beginning to end.

I have 2 different batches bottled right now.  "All hopped up" India Pale Ale and "Dads Day Dark- Honey Maple Porter" (Brewed on fathers day). Since I am the brewmaster, i also get to come up with cool, unusual, or humorous names for the brews.  Some previous names include Lizard Spit Stout, and "Down Under Thunder" which was a nice Australian style beer that was quite tasty.

Imagine how much somebody who loves to cook enjoys sharing their food with others.  Homebrew is the same for me.  As much as I enjoy it myself, I love sharing it with my friends.  So if you are ever in Powder Springs, Ga.  give me a call.  Sit down, relax, and enjoy a homebrew!

I do have many other interests that I will share sometime.  How about you?  What are your hobbies or pastimes?

Hobby ? -- why blogging of course !

Actually I enjoy a variety of things - collecting antiques (Flow Blue China and Silver Items)

In the winter I like hunkering down to sewing projects.

I'm still trying to figure out what grows well in Modoc County and the soil on my property.

Brewing and winemaking are on my to do list. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I'm more of a wine drinker but that last picture sure does makes a cold beer enticing!

Bob - That beer on the bottom has made me VERY thirsty!  My hobby (if you call it that) is grilling.... I love to do the BBQ thing, and we do it all so frequently.  How about I bring the steaks, and you bring the beer?

Hi Bob,

First of all this blog is really interesting and I agree with you it doesn't always have to be about real estate, In this case my hobby or pastime is the SKATEBOARDING. And thanks bob for this great post I feel like homebrewing my own beer too!.

Bob, my get-a-way from real estate is music. I enjoy playing the guitar and try to play a little bit every day. When I was growing up, my Dad brewed his own beer. This is making me thirsty. Have a great weekend.

Bob, I'll drink to that, sounds like fun. Mine would have to be blogging as well.

Hey, Bob!

It is hard to make time for hobbies, isn't?  So... my favorite the last few years is definitely photography.  Being out and about as my real estate business takes me around the beautiful Muskegon River area - anywhere from Reed City, Big Rapids (where my office is), down through Stanwood, & Morley to the Hardy Dam pond and Croton Dam ponds - there is always wildlife popping!

Some of my favorite subjects besides the river are birds, butterflies & flowers, and also deer, turkeys, sandhill cranes, heron rookeries, etc.... even clouds!   I love to "tweak" photos with a photoshop type program and turn them into "paintings".  I sometimes print them on watercolor paper, which adds to the effect.

These photos were all taken in my yard:
