A serial killer used her house
This story came across one of the news feed that I subscribe to and the infomration is just too important to not pass along.
The homes tenant was watching a cold case documentary on A&E when she saw her house! It turns out it was previously used by a serial killer as a site for murder and torture. Not only that, her landlord is the killers mother!
As pointed out in the story this is not a required disclosure since it not considered a material defect in the home. If the house has a crumbling foundation the owner is required to disclose any knowledge of that. That information must be readily disclosed and the buyer or tenant should not have to ask. If there was a death, murder, or in this case a serial killers torture chamber, they are required to disclose honestly IF THEY ARE ASKED.
A few years ago I was working as a buyers agent and showed a home to a client. Being from the area and familiar with the home I knew there had been a murder there. Luckily the house was outdated and the buyers had 0 interest. If there was any interest at all I would have passed along my own knowledge of the house. As it was it sort of creeped me out and I just wanted to leave :-)
It really all goes to a much larger point. The road to buying or selling a home is filled with many speedbumps and potholes. Whether you are buying or selling you need to have an expert to guide you down that road!
