"A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile..."

"A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile, and commences to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life. And he adapts his mind to that regulating factor, he ceases to accuse others as the cause of his condition, and builds himself up in strong and noble thoughts; ceases to kick against circumstances, but begins to use them as aids to his more rapid progress, and as a means of the hidden powers and possibilities within himself."
James Allen (As a Man Thinketh)

"Ceasing to accuse others as the cause..."  What a concept!  Maybe we shouldn't look so lowly at those who are successful, those earn high incomes because they have furthered their own education or built a great business?  Instead, what if we were to look at those people as achievers?  Look at them the same way we idolize an athlete that makes $20 million a year?  What can we learn from them? What have they done that I could copy? What habits do they have that I could learn? Do they have an idea or business model that I could somehow translate to my real estate business?

Most (not all,but most) of the Millionaires and Billionaires and CEO's that are so readily demonized today got there by starting with nothing.  That is they started with nothing but an idea.  A vision of what could be, not a settlement for what it is today.  Home Depot, Microsoft, Dell, Apple, Coca-Cola, go on down the list,  all started as an idea!  The idea was planted as a seed and nurtured by the owner of that idea in to whatever we see it as today.

The United States is the first country in the history of the world where a person could use the phrase "I'm going to make money" and it was actually true and possible.  It is what makes(made?) this country great.  Shall we continue to demonize and penalize those people who pursue and succeed at achieving the American Dream?

I agree success begins with self respect leading to the respect of others and the things of this world, usually that this all begins with what our families have instilled either by living the good life or by not and a successful person learning to do what was not instilled in them. The ancient Greeks had a saying (I para-phrase) - a man does not become his own man until his father dies. Carry on with what you have been taught and teach another how to live right.

Sounds a lot like perswonal resposibility. THis country (at least those on power and ion the public dole, wether individuals or corporations) no longer believe in personal responsibility. They believe in "You owe me! You are rich...just because you worked for it doesn't matter...I want mine (as long as I don't have to work for it)!"

Nothing like trying to take away a persons will to achieve; why would anyone want to strive to better themselves when the benefits of their sweat are given to others who don't.

The pursuit of Happiness, is not a guarantee of results.  Unfortunately, we have raised an entire generation to believe that to try is to succeed.  In real life there are very few trophies handed out for 11th place regardless of how "good, or nice" those 11th place finishers are.
