Local Real Estate Comments and Ramblings

Your photos can reveal your location ... beware!!!

Your pictures can reveal your location.  Beware!

Wow this is  really creepy.  All those cool pictures that we upload to facebook, twitter, etc. are geo tagged.  It's pretty simple to get the background information and determine the location a photo was taken.  Here is a video from the Kim Komando techie website that explains the process.

The good news is that all you need to do is turn off the geo tagging on your phone.  In the video it show how to turn the feature for Iphone users.  On my Android I just opend up the camera, then menu and then unchecked geo tagging.  Easy!

You want to keep this feature in mind and there may be instance where you might want the geo tagging on such photos of your listings, maybe vaction pics, etc.

I hope this makes your day a little safer :-)

I checked on my Blackberry, fortunately it defaulted to having this feature off.  Lately I see Facebook updates with "check ins" at all different places... First off, I dont care if you are at the drug store, But secondly, WHY would you want anyone to know where you are at every minute of the day???

Always safety first.

I never understood why so many people "check in" places with different apps.

Just looking for trouble.

Enjoy the day

I never use geotagging just as I don't do stupid services like FourSquare because people just don't need to know where I am 24/7.  Thanks for the tip.  This is good info for agents to know.

Bob, you and I think alike, as I wrote a similar post on this the other day. Thanks for spreading the word too at your blog. Like Robert, on my iPhone the default for the photos was OFF.

Pretty much anyplace I would post a picture ALREADY has my location posted on the site anyway.

Very interesting post!  I don't use that feature at all, but I do have a number of facebook friends who regularly post where they are at, through foursquare.  I'm definitely going to share this information with them.  Great "safety first" post!  Thank you, Bob!  This is information EVERYONE should be aware of.

With the number of "crazies" out there, everyone needs to be a little more security conscious these days.  Thanks for the reminder.
