When
the coast is clear...
Sunday
night Jimmy Buffett
and several of his friends did a free concert on the beach of Gulf Shores Alabama.
The first part of concert was broadcast live on CMT.
The television finale was a re written version of an old song of his
titled "When the coast is clear". This was an emotional
moment and a beautiful rewrite.
When the coast is clear was the first collaboration between Jimmy
Buffett and Mac MacAnally and appeared on the 1995 album "Floridays".
The original 1995 lyrics and the video from Sundays concert
are below.
Here are a few other quick concert notes..
The One Love, One Ocean concert t-shirts are available from Lulus
Homeport.
There was also a one line rewrite in "Margaritaville" Instead of "it's
my own damn fault" it was changed to "it's all BP'S fault"
Enjoy the video and if you didn't see the concert please be sure to
catch one of the replays on CMT.
One more thing... please consider taking a gulf coast vacation this
summer or fall. These are some of the most beautiful beaches in the
world ... the local folks really need your money!

Jimmy Buffett, Mac McAnally
For Emery Clark, who paints it better than I can say it
They're closin'
down the hangout
The air is turnin' cool
They're shuttin' off the superslide
The kids are back in school
The tourist traps are empty
Vacancy abounds
Almost like it used to be
Before the circus came to town
Chorus:
That's when it always happens
The same time every year
I come down to talk to me
When the coast is clear
Hello mister other me
It's been a long long time
We hardly get to have these chats
That in itself's a crime
So tell me all your troubles
I'll surely tell you mine
We'll laugh and smoke and cuss and joke and
Have a glass of wine
Chorus:
That's where it always happens
The same place every year
I come down to talk to me
When the coast is clear
(instrumental)
(It's the only place he knows)
Where it always happens
The same place every year
I still come down to talk to me
When the coast is clear

Wow, was a great live show, I for one Love Jimmy Buffet's music so was fun for me. I would have loved to have been able to be there with them for the show and party. Planning a trip to the gulf to do my part in spending a few bucks for the locals economy...Have a Great Week!
i love Jimmy Buffett concerts. I just wish this one didn't have to be for such a devastating cause.
John and Tricia, I love his concerts too. I have lost track of the number of times that I have been, 20-30 I guess. I agree that it is sad that it was for this cause, but what a great show. I wish I was there.
We are thinking of a Labor day trip to the Gulf coast.
