The "Move Over" Law

Move over Law

There is a new traffic law that everybody should be aware of.: If  a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road with their lights  flashing, you have to move to the next lane (away from the stopped  vehicle) or slow down to 20 mph.......Every state except Hawaii  and Maryland and the D.C. has this law.

It is a fairly new law that states if any  emergency vehicle is on the side of the road with its lights  flashing, if you are able, you are to move into the next lane. The cost of ticket and the points are very high
Here in Georgia the law was implemented in 2007 and allows fines up to $500!

Please let everyone you know who drives about this  new law. It is true (see details at the  following web address). It states that except two states, all the other  US states (even Canada ) enacted a similar kind of law.

Watch the first few seconds of the video and you'll see why htis law is so important.

Bob, Great post, we have a law like that in WI. as well. Why would you not want to move over. Hats off to the police and first responders who put their lives on the line each traffic stop, and response to a accident that they go to. Give them their space they need in order to do the job they have to. It's bad enough everyone is flying by at 60 miles per hour or so, now try going out there to save a life, they put their life on the line every time. Bob, once again GREAT POST. lets all do what we can, to help keep the emergency crews, and police officers safe while they are helping us and others. Semper-Fi Eric Ristey wilandandhome.com

It is amazing how many people here in Florida don't know about this law...most of them learn about it after they get fined.

Bob, thanks for the info.  Makes sense.  Particularly for the police since they've got to make their quota of tickets to meet the current budget needs.

Wow Bob.  I thought this was a law in every state already.  Learn something new everyday.

We've had the same law in NC for a year or so.  So many drivers don't move over.
