Lithia Springs,Douglasville, Ga, Sweetwater Creek State Park, Hike

Last Saturday morning we met some friends for a hike at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs, (Douglasville), Ga. It has been years since I have walked there and previously I had only done the red trail down to the mill ruins.

We met at the interpretive center/park office on Factory Shoals Rd and started off on the white trail. This was a beatiful walk that went through varied terrain and elevation changes. In the springtime I'm sure there would be a lot wildlife and native plants.  Approximately the first 2/3 of the trail are pretty easy although sometimes steep.  As the trail headed down to Jacks lake it became much more rugged.  In the slideshow you'll see a pic of the waterfall that drops from Jacks lake down to the creek branch.  

From this point on it was pretty ruggged for novices like us.  Some of it was from the terrain and some of it was from debris left from the September floods....

Marietta Country Club subdivision, Kennesaw is a golf country club conveniently located on Stilesboro Rd in west cobb County near Barrett Parkway. The neighborhood is only minutes away from shopping and dining at Town Center, and is just a short drive the the major shopping districts on Dallas Highway and the Avenues of West Cobb. The Marietta Country Club was founded in 1915 and moved to the new facility that includes residential home sites in the early 90's.  According to their website "Marietta Country Club is unique among private clubs in West Cobb in that it offers 27-holes of championship golf, 12 lighted tennis courts, and a seasonal pool facility."

Zillow, Trulia slip in Hitwise ratings

AOL Real Estate, HomeGain, LoopNet fall off top 20 list

Real estate search and valuation site Zillow.com relinquished its title as the second-most-visited real estate Web site to Yahoo! Real Estate in December, one month after upsetting the status quo among top sites in rankings compiled by online metrics firm Hitwise.

Zillow rival Trulia.com also fell -- from sixth to seventh place on the Hitwise top 20, displaced by ServiceMagic, Hitwise said.

Other sites gaining in the rankings were Apartments.com (up one place to 10th), ForRent.com (up one position, to 14th), Apartment Guide (up one place, to 15th), Listingbook Services (up three positions, to 16th).

Whats worse than a root canal? True story!

So  I was at the dentist today getting a root canal.  Each chair has its own TV which I thought was pretty nice. In all honesty, the root canal was not as bad as the deep cleaning last month, except for the dentist sticking that hockey puck thing in my  mouth.  I suppose that was to keep me from biting his finger off if he hit a nerve or something.


Anyway, as I was in the chair and the dentist was poking, grinding, numbing, away I was thinking "Is there anything worse than a root canal?" About then I realized there was.

The View was on TV.

 Definitely.... getting a root canal while watching The View is worse than a root canal all alone!

I love public speaking.  Some people will jump out of a perfectly airplane and then tell you that their greatest fear is public speaking.  It makes no sense to me.  Anyway as public speaker and a fan of public speaking, I believe the greatest speaker of my lifetime is MLK. Jr.  

He moved people and changed a nation with the power of words.  So in honor of MLK day 2010 take 17 minutes and 28 seconds to watch and listen to one the greatest speeches of all time.

For as long as I can remember, listings here in Ga. have not included square footage.  I heard stories why this is the case, but the bottom line is that square footage does not appear on listings.  That is all changing tomorrow.

FMLS has announced that square footage will now populate form tax records with new listings.  We can also manually input the sq. footage but we must cite the source.  It is important to note that agents do not measure the property.  We will only be quoting the footage from other sources.

Nonetheless, i think this is a good thing and long overdue!

Here is the announcement from FMLS: "Square Footage Now Provided for Residential Detached & Attached Properties. By popular demand, the new field "Square Footage" was added for the Residential Detached property type in 1st Connection. In addition to the new Square Footage field, a new Square Footage Source field was added - "Sq Ft Source." Note: "Unit Sq Ft" and "Sq Ft Source" were added to the Residential Attached Property Type in 2009. A square footage value auto-populates from the Tax Record upon listing entry. The square footage amount that auto-populated from the Realist Tax Record can be edited if need be.    However, if the value is edited a new Source will need to be indicated. (Sq. Ft Source options for Residential Detached are Tax Record, Not Available, Builder, and Appraisal.)"

Hike up Kennesaw Mountain

Last Saturday in the midst of our annual snow day event, we decided to hike up Kennesaw Mountain with some friends. We met them at their home at "The Gates at Parkside Village".

This is a fairly new complex of beautiful townhomes, located right across the street from Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield National Park.  We were able to walk out of the complex and get on the trail directly  the street. It was pretty slick from the ice and snow so it was a pretty good workout to make it to the top of the mountain.  I know when you take the trail from the visitors center to the top it is right at a 1 mile hike each way.  I suspect that it was just about the same from our starting point.

We made it to the top with little problem, other than I'm out of shape :-).  It was a cool crip day and the views were spectacular!
